Buckinghamshire Wedding Venues

Our top three wedding venues in Buckinghamshire:

Stowe House - photographically virtually unbeatable as a wedding venue in the UK – the only problem is you need several days to fully utilise the grounds and the architecture! Amazing room for your wedding breakfast with incredible domed roof. Only problem is the lack of accommodation for your wedding guests and for your first night.

Stoke Park - a beautiful house with gorgeous grounds and service that is second to none. Excellent opportunities for some stunning wedding photographs both inside and out and plenty of accommodation for your wedding guests.

Notley Abbey – Notley Abbey is one of a group of wedding venues owned by the Bijou Wedding Venues group. Recent refurbishment has made this venue unique in its combination of old and new. Luxurious modern interiors with fabulous bathrooms and suites, clean lines and tiled floors (no ugly multi-coloured carpets or curtains in sight!) combined with a traditional country house venue exterior makes this one of my favourite wedding venues in the UK currently. Your civil wedding ceremony can take place inside or outside. Your wedding photographer can blend the old with the new giving you many creative and contemporary wedding  photography opportunities.

Hertfordshire Wedding Venues

There are so many great wedding venues in Hertfordshire it is really difficult to just choose three or four favourites…. so we have a few more than that in this section…

Brocket Hall – joint number one with Wrotham Park for sheer grandeur! A stately home on a majestic level with fabulous grounds, grand staircase and ornate ballroom providing superb photographic opportunities inside and out.

Wrotham Park – joint number one with Brocket Hall for grandeur! The steps and pillars provide fabulous architectural interest in your wedding photographs, and there is a chapel in the grounds for a blessing.

The Grove - if you prefer a more contemporary wedding venue to the more traditional style stately homes, The Grove is perfect for you. With its luxurious accommodation, contemporary art in every room, clean white corridors and sweeping staircases, we actually prefer photographing inside this venue, so no need to worry about wet weather here! But outside isn’t bad either with its contemporary gardens and fountains!

Down Hall - Down Hall offers a range of diverse photographic opportunities both inside and out, with plenty of accommodation for guests.

Fanhams Hall - Fanhams Hall blends old and new. The vast grounds include a Japanese garden, lakes, bridge, Wisteria walk, walled formal gardens, rose garden. Inside the long gallery provides a stunning setting for a civil ceremony, while the great hall is perfect for your wedding reception.

Knebworth House - Knebworth House is a fabulous stately home set in vast grounds making a superb backdrop for your photographs. There is a chapel within the grounds. The wedding breakfast and evening reception takes place in the neighbouring barn.

Hatfield House - another fabulous stately home with gardens offering some great opportunities for some stunning creative and contemporary wedding photographs.

Hanbury Manor - again a mix of old and new with a choice of the new Garden Court for your wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast, or Poles Hall again available for civil wedding ceremonies, and perfect for a grand wedding brerakfast. Plenty of accommodation available for your wedding guests.

Theobalds Park - a stunning photographic backdrop with several options for a civil ceremony inside or outside, and plenty of accommodation for your guests.

St Michaels Manor - a luxury hotel in a peaceful setting with a beautiful lake and close to St Albans Cathedral.

Hope thats given you plenty of ideas for planning your Hertfordshire wedding – all the best!

Sussex Wedding Venues

There are lots of beautiful venues in Sussex including barns, castles, and an abundance of stately homes such as Goodwood House and Baillifscourt. If you are looking for something less traditional and more contemporary you can’t beat Alexander House Hotel, which has been recently modernised and offers luxury accommodation and a spa.

Three of our favourite Sussex wedding venues, from a photographic point of view are:

Amberley Castle – well it is where we got married you see so it has to come top! We fell in love with it from the moment the gates swing open and you come up the driveway towards the portcullis. The inside is small but intimate, cosy and welcoming – a real home from home that you can hire exclusively for the day. The rooms are stately with grand four poster beds. There is a lovely oak staircase, and swords and suits of armour line the rooms. Your civil ceremony can take place in the Great Room or you can have a church ceremony within the grounds. The courtyard is a magical setting for your drinks reception with plenty of places for photo opportunities as you and your guests explore the battlements and castle ruins. The wedding breakfast can take place in the Queens Room or in a marquee for larger numbers. Dancing can either take place back in the Great Room or in the marquee. Finishing the evening with fireworks is always a spectacular way to finish the day at Amberley.

Buxted Park – Again one of the main benefits of Buxted Park is that it has a church within the grounds so you have the choice of being able to have either a church ceremony or a civil ceremony here. Buxted Park also has enough accommodation for all of your guests, including some fabulous suites. The hotel can arrange archery or clay pigeon shooting etc for the boys in the morning, and there are plenty of opportunities for some stunning wedding photographs.

Herstmonceux Castle – The main downside of Herstmonceux Castle is that it offers no accommodation, it is not a hotel. However, as a photographic backdrop, with fantastic opportunities both outside and inside (in case of wet weather), Herstmonceux Castle is hard to beat.

If you are looking for a Sussex wedding venue and you need any help finding the most suitable one for you, we are always happy to assist and provide an impartial point of view – feel free to give us a call or email and chat through your requirements.

Surrey Wedding Venues

For those of you planning a wedding in Surrey and still looking for some wedding venue ideas, here are a few favourites that we have photographed:

Syon Park – Syon Park is a stunning wedding venue near Twickenham. You can hold a grand civil ceremony in the main hall with its black and white tiled floor, gorgeous pillars and statues. The courtyard garden is an ideal setting for your wedding reception drinks, keeping your guests contained and providing a stunning backdrop for your formal photographs. The extensive grounds and lakes give endless opportunities for creative and contemporary wedding photographs. The wedding breakfast is held in the magnificent conservatory with amazing domed roof.

Great Fosters - Great Fosters near Egham in Surrey, is a very traditional country house wedding venue. This grand stately home complete with wood panelling, oak staircase, and real open fireplaces is a fabulous wedding venue. The orangery is perfect for a civil wedding ceremony, and the barn is a stunning setting for your wedding breakfast. The grounds, complete with a maze, bridge and lake, provide a number of creative photographic opportunities.

Northcote House – Northcote House is situated close to Sunningdale. It has a grand stone staircase inside, a great hall where your dancing and evening reception can take place, and extensive grounds for your wedding photographs.

Some other venues, particularly worthy of note in Surrey include Pennyhill Park, Alexander House, Addington Palace and Clandon Park. For more details take a look at our Surrey Wedding Venues page.

Somerset Wedding Venues

Despite being based in London, we find ourselves close to Bath in Somerset, quite a lot for weddings. This is probably because Somerset has some spectacular wedding venues with vast grounds, such as Orchardleigh Estate near Frome.

Orchardleigh Estate has one of the longest driveways we have come across. The grounds are immense offering a variety of fantastic photographic opportunities , and the gothic house is a great photographic backdrop. Inside there is a large bridal suite for getting ready, a grand staircase, and several large rooms including a snooker room. You can choose to have a civil wedding ceremony, or you can have your ceremony in the church in the grounds.

Another one of our favourite Somerset wedding venues is Babington House

Babington House offers a relaxed country retreat experience. There is a sweeping tree lined driveway, a chapel in the grounds for your ceremony and plenty of luxurious accommodation for your guests. The food and service, you can be assured will be superb.

If you prefer a wedding venue in Bath itself, you can’t beat The Bath Spa hotel, or The Royal Crescent Hotel. Both offer some great photographic opportunities – The Bath Spa has the edge for outdoor photography, but The Royal Crescent has superior accomodation, food and service. When choosing your venue, there are many different considerations to take into account – you will find pros and cons with all venues – if you are struggling, make a list and prioritise the things that are most important to you -for example - food, service, accommodation, church or chapel in the grounds, possibility of an outside civil ceremony, photographic opportunities inside, photographic opportunities outside etc – score each venue in each category and then make your decisions from there.

Feel free to contact us if you need any help finding a suitable wedding venue, we are always happy to assist and provide an impartial point of view.

London Wedding Venues

If you are looking for a wedding venue in London with outside space, finding one may be difficult, and may come with other compromises. Don’t forget, when choosing a London wedding venue – you do actually have the whole of London to use as a photographic backdrop!

For example if you choose to use The Institute of Directors for your wedding ceremony and wedding reception, not only do you have the grand staircase and interior of the venue to use, but you are close to The Mall for outdoor photographs. If you choose One Great George Street, you are close to Westminster Bridge and St James’ Park. Similarly if you choose the Royal Society of Arts you are close to the Strand and the Embankment, and if you choose Plaisterers Hall or Ironmongers Hall you are close to the Barbican.  Threadneedles Hotel or The Gherkin are right in the middle of the City with its varied architecture, or you can take a short cab ride into Shoreditch or Smithfields for a different feel to your photographs. All of these wedding venues can offer great opportunities for a location photo shoot if you allow a bit of extra time.

Some other great venues include Somerset House and The Natural History Museum.

If you are really set on outside space take a look at The Royal Naval College in Greenwich – an unbeatable architectural backdrop for your wedding photographs. This venue is used as the backdrop in many films including the new Sherlock Holmes, The Duchess, The Golden Compass to name but a few – all those film directors can’t be wrong! And you needn’t worry if it rains – you can just take cover under the Collonades !

Another London wedding venue which offers outside space and a stunning interior too is Eltham Palace.

But as we have said, wedding venues in London that offer outside space are few and far between, and they may come at the cost of being a little further outside the centre of town for example, or they may hold fewer guests than you would ideally like, or they may not offer accommodation for your guests etc.

Think carefully through the pros and cons of each venue before you make your final decision – good luck with your venue hunting!

Essex Wedding Venues

If you are planning a wedding in Essex, and are currently choosing your wedding venue, take a look at our favourite Essex wedding venues. Our top four selection of Essex wedding venues that we have worked at include:

Gosfield Hall – a beautiful stately home set in acres of grounds, complete with a grand staircase, real open fireplaces, option for outdoor civil ceremony or indoor civil ceremony in the Long Gallery. There are plenty of great photographic opportunities both inside and out, so it is a great wedding venue in any weather, and at any time of year. There is plenty of accommodation including the stunning bridal suite, and the food and service are second to none.

Leez Priory – although this doesn’t quite have the same feel and grandeur of Gosfield Hall, it has a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. It gorgeous courtyard is a wonderful setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony and/or for your drinks reception. The tower is an alternative for a small civil wedding ceremony. Again, offering plenty of fantastic photographic opportunities both inside and out, it makes a great wedding venue at any time of year. With its old beams and real fireplaces it has wonderful charm and character. Offering great food, and top service, Leez Priory makes an unforgettable wedding venue.

Braxted Park – this wedding venue has a real mix, something for everyone. With a stately home as the backdrop for your photographs, complete with tree lined sweeping driveway, as well as having both a lake and a walled garden – can you ask for anything more ? Options are available for a civil ceremony in the orangery, or there is a church in the grounds of the venue. Your dinner can take place in the main house or in the marquee set in the walled garden for a completely different feel. Braxted Park comes alive at night when both the inside and the outside are lit beautifully.

Fennes Estate – this Essex wedding venue is a beautiful old house, in stunning grounds, but with a marquee attached to cater for hundreds of guests for your wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception. If you prefer a church ceremony, Bocking church is just around the corner and makes a stunning venue for your ceremony. With beautifully decorated bedrooms to get ready in, a cottage tucked away for your first wedding night, and several beautifully decorated rooms and  grand staircase for indoor photography, this again makes a great wedding venue at any time of year. The food and the service are excellent, and the photographic opportunities are plentiful. Again, a great deal of thought has been put into lighting the gardens to stunning effect.

Here are a selection of our contemporary wedding images from this weeks wedding at Northamptonshire wedding venue Highgate House. The ceremony and the wedding breakfast took place in the grand Baronial Hall with its wood panelling and fireplace – a wonderful setting. The wedding dress was a Suzanne Neville design and the bride chose a black and white colour scheme for the day.
